“For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to both color and texture - especially as they are found in the natural world. Red iron oxide, the color of rust - and what gives our blood its hue - is one of my favorite colors, and is found in all my pieces.

To me, some of the most interesting textures are found in the resultant marks of nature’s wearing away. Crevices, canyons and seashores all attest to the give and take of Mother Earth.

My paintings are created in much the same way; in the layering of the acrylic paint and gels, continual re-working, and sometimes violent mark making, they become metaphors for our own lives. Imperfection trumps perfection, chaos is organized and peace prevails.”

“Painting is an integral part of my spiritual practice and a constant reminder that we are all inextricably LINKED to the world we inhabit. The work is an extension of my consciousness combined with qualities gathered from the natural world. They are indeed conduits through which information, sensations, inspiration, and guidance flow to and from the collective consciousness and the Universe.” - Michael Kessler

    GEOMETRIC: Organic

    26 January 2017 – 24 February 2017 | Thursday, January 26th, 2017 - from 6:30pm - 9:30pm

    Color versus Shape
Silver’s color is dynamic and strong, yet it is the shape that tells the story. The shapes are either geometric or organic.  His “geometric shapes” fool the eye and create the illusion of depth and/or movement.  In contrast, his organic abstractions flow as in nature, encouraging the viewer’s own interpretation.  Silver’s contrasting styles are captivating and not to be missed.                                                              -Stephen Silver-

    2 March 2017 – 3 April 2017 | Thursday, March 2nd, 2017 - from 6:30pm - 9:30pm

If I were writing a common artist statement, my first task would be to describe what I have made - the second; to express my desire to transform my feeling into a work of art.

What if this structure was reversed?

I have created what I want my work to make me feel. We say in French ‘’Prend la vie comme elle vient.’’ translation: take life how it is coming. It is hard to give up the desire to control and just accept; close your eyes and feel the wind.

Lightness, simplicity, color and a logical evolution remains consistent throughout my sculpture. However, through this body of work I also wanted to understand the static that is inherent in movement, and non-geometric curves.

Similar to the unexpected surprise of the mix of objects found in a garage sale; I have combined architecture, landscape, nature and sensuality.

As I am primarily a sculptor, spontaneity is a big challenge for me. In my method of sculpting, there is no going back once you have begun the course of action. By voluntarily avoiding painting techniques and continuing my evolution in the three-dimensional process, I am forcing myself to systematically learn a new language. This progression is bringing me closer and closer to my main passion and obsession: searching.

My dream would be to be like you, seeing my own work for the very first time.

I have been an abstract expressionist painter since age 5. The immediacy and reshness of this style as well as its complexity and boldness has always spoken to me. To this end I paint with acrylic paint in an alla prima style, in a spontaneous and physical way, moving back and forth across the painting surface, making marks that dance across that surface. I start by introducing color, shapes and line, then respond to their development. I move these elements around, adding and removing paint in multiple layers. The work pushes and pulls itself to completion. I have had the good fortune to live in New Mexico for a number of years where the light, sky and general landscape are captivating. My work is inspired by this beauty surrounding me and is a translation of the energy of my environment onto canvas, panel or paper. More recently, my work has focused on my own interior landscape, guided by my intuition and emotion.
